By Justin Silverton
From the codegear website:
Delphi for PHP offers all the features and functionality needed to rapidly and visually create powerful PHP applications, new PHP components, and package existing PHP code into reusable visual components. Delphi for PHP does this all with seamless support for MySQL®, InterBase® from CodeGear, and other SQL databases and it does it with an open source VCL for PHP. Microsoft® Windows® RAD developers will now have the familiarity and ease of use that Delphi and C++Builder® have always provided, and can move into PHP development with speed and confidence,” said Swindell.
Features:
- RAD environment for PHP
- VCL for PHP – Open source PHP 5 visual component library with more than 50 extendable and reusable components with seamless AJAX integration
- Out-of-the-box database integration with InterBase, MySQL, Oracle®, Microsoft SQL Server, and other popular databases
- Integrated PHP debugger
- Deployment of PHP applications on Windows, Linux, Solaris and other platforms
- Internationalization support for applications
- Drag and drop database application development using the Data Explorer for InterBase and MySQL
- Code editor with Code Insight, Code Explorer, and Code Templates, making it easier and faster to write PHP code

We are really proud of our first step into the PHP world and most importantly our efforts to bring a VCL out for PHP.
We would love more feedback as you get to use the product.
CodeGear looks like its on a winner on a number of fronts.
a) Delphi for Php - Finally a RAD Php tool that works!!
b) Delphi for Win32 2007 - The ONLY NATIVE EXE RAD tool which is VISTA ready out of the box. Try and get glass effects, vista diaglogs in MFC, etc etc..
c) CodeGear Studio later in the year will be AWESOME. C++/C#/Delphi Win32/.NET, ECO, Together UML etc etc…
Keep up the good work CodeGear..
Looking at the vcl4php project on sf.net, I see
1 developer
0 releases
0 code in cvs
I am very sad to say this bears a vivid resemblance with the “vcl for kylix” failure. For those that do not remember it:
- code dumped on sf.net in buggy state and never patched
- only a couple of admins (Delphi employees) allowed to check in stuff, and doing so only on rare occasions
- community is disappointed in quality of the product and opnenness of the process, does not build up a percentage of the momentum than the ‘delphi on win32′ crows had
- product does not sell enough, and is abandoned by the company
- the die hards have to produce unofficial, self-compiled versions of the lib to make it compatible with newer kernels
I just hope to be mistaken
I don’t understand why the heck they called it “Delphi” for PHP. A LOT of C/C++ Programmers which code PHP as well doesn’t like Delphi and doesn’t want even to take a look at this tool just because it’s called “delphi”. But there is no “delphi” in it - only the components have properties like the vcl-components. No Delphi code! It’s all PHP or am I’m wrong? Call this product PHPBuilder or something.

Hi Gaetano, yes the SF project has not been launched yet. It will be launched as soon as we are officially gold v1.0 - which will be soon. Then you will see activity.
This is very different than CLX, in that it is being developed as an open source project, includes other open source code, and will be maintained by qadram, a separate company from CodeGear. It will be an open source and community driven project from inception. FreeCLX was really just a GPL licensed cut of the proprietary CLX code that was developed in a closed door fashion.
It’s just about the end of March and I am eagerly awaiting the release of Delphi for PHP …
Is there an updated release date?
Gerald, I just bought Delphi for PHP a few hours ago, so it’s been released.
